OEM Color Matching vs. Custom Paint: Which Is Right for You?

"Can you match my color exactly?" is the question we hear most in the paint booth. The answer is almost always yes - but whether you should match it or go custom depends on the build.

Here's how we approach automotive paint at BZ Kustomz, and how to decide which route fits your car.

OEM color matching

Every factory color has a paint code. We read it with a computerized spectrophotometer, then fine-tune for age and sun fade so a repaired panel blends invisibly into the rest of the car. For collision repairs and daily drivers, that's the goal: nobody should be able to tell the panel was ever touched.

Custom finishes

Building something that turns heads? That's where custom comes in - colors and effects you simply can't get from a factory code:

How to choose

If you're repairing damage or keeping a clean factory look, OEM matching is the move. If the car is a personal build and you want it to stand out at a show, custom is worth every coat. Not sure? Bring it by and we'll talk through the options.

Either way, prep is everything

The finish is only as good as the work underneath it - media blasting, epoxy primer, block sanding, and proper masking. We don't cut those corners, which is why our paint holds up under the Arizona sun.
